Lakers Gets Gasol!

Lakers pick up Paul Gasol from Memphis Grizzlies today. This trade puts the Lakers in the title hunt immediately. Damn good trade for the Lakers... Southern California rejoice.

New Laker Starting line up (after Bynum returns)

Fisher, Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum with Walton, Farmar, Vujacic, Ariza, Turiaf, and Vlad Rad as the back up. Not a bad crew... Heck, certain puts the Lakers ahead of Suns in the west, and give Spurs a run for the Western Conference supremacy...

Love Stephan A's "Kwame Brown!!! are you kidding me?!!"

Ducks 1 - Cougars 0

http://www.yahoo.com/s/675602

Posted: 12:41 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2007
The University of Oregon Athletic Department announced Friday that the Duck mascot will be suspended for next Saturday’s home game against Fresno State. The action comes after two incidents between the Duck and the University of Houston Cougar mascot in both the first and second halves of last Saturday’s game at Autzen Stadium.

Two students were involved. As is often the case, the students each wore the Duck outfit for one half, UO sports information director Dave Williford said Friday by telephone from Ann Arbor, Mich., where Oregon takes on the Michigan Wolverines Saturday in a nationally televised game that begins at 12:30 p.m. on ABC. “At least three, but maybe more” students serve as the Duck mascot, Williford said.

The Duck is in Ann Arbor, Williford said. Exactly what he’ll be allowed to do is unclear, but he’s not suspended for the Michigan game, Williford said. In addition to the one-game suspension, other disciplinary measures will be taken against the two UO students involved in altercations, he said. “There’s some other things, yes, but I can’t go into that for privacy reasons,” Williford said.

In the first half of the Houston game, the Duck approached the Cougar mascot on the field and appeared to kick him in the side after he mimicked the Duck by doing pushups after Houston scored a touchdown. The Cougar then tackled the Duck as he went back to the sideline. In a scene that nded up on YouTube this week, the Duck can then be seen punching the Cougar for about 20 seconds.

Hey Duck, don't try that *hit in LA. Trojan mascot is on a big horse and has a giant sword. I'd like to see you try to beat up on that.

Welcome to the Pac-10... :)

Don't Mess with Armadillo

Pardon the long silence. This blogger has been extremely busy with work and attending social events (yes, I do have a life damn it).

Hilarious article of the day:

Anyways, as an active cyclist, these are the days that you wish you were 30 seconds back and holding a digital camera.

For the record, Armadillos are SLOW MOVING animals. How blind or sluggish do you have to be to hit them? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armadillo

Angels spank Yankees, Garret Anderson goes nuts

There are few things like watching baseball at the Big A on a warm summer night. The clear sky, the beautiful lights, and 30,000 people chanting "Yankees Suck!". Ahhh, welcome to Rally Monkey land. On this night however, the jumping critter does not need to make an appearance as Garret Anderson rocks the house with 10 RBI's, 2 HR (1 Grand Slam), and 2 Doubles.

There were a lot of Yankee fans at the park. If I had to guess, 1/4 of the fans were cheering for the Yankees. Anyways, they were piling out of the ball park by 3rd inning as Angels went up by 7 in the 3rd inning and rocked Yankee starter Mike "Moose" Mussina for 7 runs before he had 5 outs.

This blogger was happy to witness history as GA sets franchise record for RBIs in 1 game. Go Angels!

Yes he can bend it!

In his first start for the Galaxy Beckham nails his patented free kick!

This blogger was happy to be at the game, in the cheap seats, behind the goal...here are a couple of pics.

The Action at HDC

Lining up for Goal scoring free kick

Second Half freekick that was saved

The Galaxy beat DC United 2-0 to move on to the finals of the SuperLiga against the Mexican team Pachuca who earlier had beaten FC Dallas on penalties. The final will be held Wednesday, August 29 at 7 p.m. PT at Home Depot Center. Look here for tickets

Overall I felt the game had a bit more speed and skill than games I have seen before at Home Depot. There was a buzz in the air for the 18,000 some crowd. Though nowhere near capacity it was an impressive turn out for a Wednesday night game for a non-regular season match.

The Galaxy as a team still has far to go to play as a unit and to get used to expecting and handling some of the sublime passing displayed by Beckham. They are a team with some good talent, but I think it will be next year before we see any real return on it. Beckham came on to the field wearing the captains' armband and his leadership skills were never in doubt.

In the mean time it was nice too be part of a special night and to actually see a Beckham's free kick in person.
